YORK (Oct. 26, 2007) — There are so many
reasons to love Montreal: the pretty girls, the
poutine, the indecipherable French announcements
on the Metro...and now the Montreal
English Critics Circle has nominated Ryan
Paulson's Pentecostal Wisconsin for Best
Visiting Production of 2007.
The
nomination follows a successful run last January
at Montreal's Centaur
Theatre, the largest English-language theatre
in the city. As part of the Centaur's annual Wildside
Festival, Pentecostal Wisconsin
won a rave
review in the Montreal Gazette and garnered
praise from the city's many theatre bloggers.
The
award will be handed out in Montreal on December
3.
Pentecostal
Wisconsin is a one-person play that tells
the story of an unorthodox upbringing in a faith
that requires no less than religious ecstasy from
a bunch of shy Scandinavians.
In
this hilarious tale of love, sex, and religion,
Ryan Paulson lets
us in on what the religious right is really all
about as he finds God, falls hard for a sexy Swedish
teenager and winds up leaving his friend Jesus
standing at the ticket counter at the Minneapolis/St.
Paul airport.
Pentecostal
Wisconsin has been presented at Ars
Nova in New York and was selected as an "Off-Off-Broadway
Pick" by New
York Magazine.

Toronto

Fringe Festival.
